Thinking through bamboo
in collaboration with Leiden University, Faculty of archaeology
Master Industrial Design KABK, The Hague
Project about redesigning an object with respect to the future archaeology and the materials connected to the object. I redesigned a pair of bamboo tongs, shaping them with and through the intrinsic property of the material. The design and the process was inspired by the amount of control that splitting of bamboo provides, always controllably stopping at the node. This allowed for very repeatable results and a product which stays very close to the origin of the material, as un(refined) as possible, leaving little trace of its material existence in the future.
Big thanks to Bamboo Import Europe for providing me with the material for the project.
